Big changes coming up to Squidge.ORG

squidgestatusWARNING! WARNING! Things are about to change at Squidge.org!
Tomorrow, if all goes well, a high speed FIOS (Verizon Fiber Optic) line will be installed to the Squidge.org datacenter (aka my garage). This line will take us from the current slowpoke 1.5Mb/384kb DSL line to a 20Mb/5Mb FIOS line. This means that Squidge will no longer be horribly slow to connect to, download email, etc.
When this occurs, I am changing ISPs. In doing so, I have to change the IP addresses of Squidge.org and all related servers. Normally when I update the nameservers/IP addresses, it takes between 20 minutes and 2 hours for the majority of North America to recognize the new IP addresses. The rest of the world will take anywhere from 20 minutes to 48 hours to recognize the new IP addresses.
What this means is that for a period of time tomorrow, your connectivity will be interrupted, then you will get timeouts for a short period. Then things will get back to normal. The basic plan is:
Sometime today: FIOS drop line installed
Friday between 1PM and 3PM: Verizon FIOS installer shows up, installs FIOS to datacenter. This is when there will be no connectivity to Squidge.org services.
Friday 3PM to 4PM: Walter reconfigures DNS/Nameserver entries on all servers, reconfigures Apache servers, mail servers to recognize new IP addresses
Friday 4:15PM to 6PM: North America comes back online and Squidge.org is accessible as nameservers propogate the new IP addresses
Friday 6PM to Sunday 4PM: Squidge.org is available worldwide as global ISPs propogate their nameservers with thew new IP addresses
