There may be multiple short downtimes today, due to some maintenance done by our ISP.  The upgrade is to increase our service speed, but it will require them to change out some equipment.  They haven't given me an ETA as to when the technician will show up, just "Sometime today."

Mea culpa.
So we were down until about 4pm, when the power came back on.  But this new server that I set up, I forgot to set something in the computer's bios to automatically reboot on power failure, so it automatically recovers.  That's my fault, and I apologize.
Secondly, after my husband got the server rebooted, I found our initial network issue came back.  Not sure why, but it did - which it shouldn't have since we're on a brand new server.  But I think I found the issue behind it *finally*, and resolved it.
As of 18:30 Pacific time, we are all back up.  And I hope it stays that way!!!

Looks like we lost power about 13:30 (1:30pm) Pacific time due to storms in the area. Power company is working on it.

Webserver (except for mailing list web interface), email, and IRC is up and running.  Still working on mailing list issues - FRUSTRATING!  Let me know if you see stuff not working properly.  Thanks!

We are in an extended downtime due to hardware failure. I'm working on the new server to get it up asap!

We have acquired a new webserver, which should hopefully help with some of the stability issues we've seen as of late.  Over the next few days, I'll be prepping that new server to make sure everything is up to date, installed, and ready to go.  And once that is completed (probably mid next week) we will do a switchover.  It should be transparent to end users, though there will be some downtime involved.

Power went out about half hour ago, with an ETA of 6:30pm Pacific.

We're going to have a short downtime at 4pm Pacific for network maintenance.

Looks like we're in an outage due to the database server.  We're working on restoring connectivity asap.

Edit 08/24/15 12:50pm: And we're back up!  Errant network process was the culprit.

We will be taking all website offline on Saturday morning for some much-needed operating system and other software updates. Tentatively scheduled for July 4th, 2015 at 08:00 Pacific Time.

We have a hacker that is not letting up.  Therefore, I will be taking the webserver offline from 11:40am Pacific time until about 3pm Pacific time for scanning and defensive measures.

We're having big storms in the PNW, so we may lose power, and service. Sorry!

I'm adding in some new hardware and will be having to unplug and move some servers around, so there will be intermittent connectivity issues between 4pm and 5pm today.  All services will be affected.

We've got a flaky network card that is hampering access on random occasions for several minutes at a time. There will be a hardware switchout later tonight or Friday morning, taking us down for about 30 minutes, but which will hopefully resolve our issues.

Back up!

Good news! We are all back up and running. Looks like we had a few issues that were resolved with some proper reseating of cables, and then a quick networking issue - but we're up now!

Don't hesitate to comment if you see issues.

I need to install a new UPS (battery backup) so there will be a very quick downtime at 11am Pacific time as I shut down machines and rewire.

I'm going to be installing and setting up a firewall in response to the massive amount of hacking attempts that are escalating as of late.  This should help both with keeping the hackers out, as well as cut down on the amount of spam Squidge users receive.

It will be important to let me know if there are any issues with access (web, mail, IRC, etc).

I will implement the firewall about 3pm Pacific time today, 8/29/14.  You can contact me here, or my off-squidge email: squidgeadmin@icloud.com

We're currently in a downtime due to power issues.  The ETA from our local provider is to be back up by 6pm local time (less than 2 hours from now).  Fingers crossed!

So occasionally we get someone who comes to us and asks that they have their stories removed from the Internet one one of the Archives that I host on Squidge.org - and I've always complied.  But recently I found something intriguing on AO3 and wanted to try and replicate it.
Basically, if you want to abandon your stories and remove all traces of your identity from them on AO3, there's something called "Orphan Account".  What that does is take all of your stories and strip them of your identifying information, and attribute them to a generic account called "Orphan Account".  That way your stories stay available for people to read, but yet they are detached from your identify.  Your account can be deleted, but your stories stay.
What do people think?  Good idea?  Bad?  Thoughts?

I believe I've resolved all issues around the outage, and we are back up and running.  Please let me know if you see any oddities.  Thanks!
