Still Down

A storm took out power on Saturday morning, and we are still down. Apparently thousands are out of power, so we're not the only ones down. Weather is improving so we just have to wait for crews to restore power.

This is why Squidge.org is so inexpensive to run - from space out of my home.  But we do need to start transitioning to datacenters to keep service uninterrupted in the future.  That will cost more than our $200/month we experience now.

I, for one, only hope those in the area are staying warm and dry and fed. The fics will be there when they get back.

But thank you for reaching out.

Thanks for the update! I saw that a lot of outages have been reported, it'll take a while to clear all of those up. Stay safe!

One the one hand: yay! On the other hand: meep.

I heard there were bad storm out your way and wondered if that was why Squidge was down. It's the way it is and I'm sure all will be back up again soon.

Thank you for all you do to give fandom a home!

Walter: your call about the finances about your playground you've been running; still: I'd be careful about increased cost- especially today. Finances have to match industrial production: if the money supply is higher than the manufacturing capacity: you have inflation and thus depression of the economy, if you have excessive manufacturing capacity compared to finances: you have deflation and while the money is worth far more- this sequence bounces.
This also helps to explain how come in history the conquest of the Americas caused an economic collapse in Imperial Spain in about the 16th Century: the financial supply far exceeded the industrial production.
My point is; this's not something you should jump into, but double-check the materials for a long time before you move in.

Sorry to hear about the outages -- hope people who need it will be able to have assistance.

I don't know that increasing the maintenance costs is necessarily worth it to avoid some rare service interruptions though.
