Old Archives - Opinions Wanted!

So because Squidge.org is so old (September 2021 marked our 27th year on the Internet!) there are some sites out there that remain unchanged for ages. Sites like Peja's WWOMB are easier, because those are archives that have been around and are now replaced with SquidgeWorld - with more sites (like MUFA-MPREG and NCISFiction.com) that will be rolled into SquidgeWorld sooner or later.

But there are other sites, like blogs that haven't been updated in a decade, or dearly-loved sites like minotaur's sex tips for slash writers that I just do not want to go by the wayside.

This is where you come in!

Leaving these on the site is just fine. However, I'd almost like to make a site called "classic.squidge.org" and put all of these archive-worthy websites in read only mode somewhere on the cloud.  That way, should something happen to Squidge, they would always be available.  Not all sites would qualify, of course; an abandoned blog with two entries can probably be deleted.  But Minotaur's site?  Some of the old Sentinel sites?  They definitely need to be saved.

So I'm open to ideas.  Please let me have 'em!

I love this idea, and whatever you do, make sure that they are fully archived through the Wayback machine as well

I think a 'Read Only' version of 'Classic Squidge' sounds like a great idea. You're right, it would be a shame to lose that history and information. Thank you for thinking of it, and all the work you've put into Squidge.

This is a terrific idea. I'd hate to see minotaur's site, or old Sentinel sites like theforest, etc. disappear. Not that I don't expect you to stick around a lot longer than I'll be around, squidgie!

Morgan's idea is also a sound one.

maybe also using the OTW's Open Doors project where feasible?

In certain circumstances, that would work. However, on sites like Minotaur's "Sex Tips for Slash Writers", that isn't quite their purview, from what I understand. Use of the OTW itself is a question that's very high on my list, though even if the answer is yes, it's up to the OTW to decide if this project is something they deem worthy/want to be a part of.
