So Squidge has hosted the Jinjurly audio/podfic archive for a couple of years now, but have only recently taken control of the day-to-day stuff tha needs to be done.  And if you know anything about the Jinjurly archive, you might know that it was hacked a while back, which resulted in the loss of many, many podfics.

Between [personal profile] mific  and myself ([personal profile] squidgiepdx ) we have recovered a number of files for the archive.  These are mostly SGA, but those do make up a significant part of the archive itself.  We've also been revamping things here and there.

Two big things to note: First, if you want to submit something to the archive there is a new form (click here) to submit items!  It'll be embedded in the site soon.

Second thing, if you need to reach us, you can email jinjurlymods@squidge.org and one of us will get back to you.

Please note: Because so many files are missing, we're going to ask the community to see if they have replacements.  That will be forthcoming in the next while (could be days, could be weeks).

All of my saved files are dS or C6D, and most of those are fic, not podfic, but if any podfic files I do have are amongst those that need replacing in the archive I'll gladly help.

TYK for your doing this important "saving project" for fandom!

Thank YOU! It looks like we have about 200 missing due South podfics. Could you see if you do have any dS podfics and if so, let me know?

I do have some few dS podfics. Shall I put together a list of titles and readers for you? (If so, it might be Monday or Tuesday when I do it -- I'm in the midst of the Firewhiskey Fic thing and attending to one fannish thing at a time just now.)

Hey, when you say you recovered some files, does that include the ~14,000 files we crowd sourced back in 2016-2017?

If not, I still have a number of these files and we should talk about getting them transferred to you (hopefully not making me fill out that form 1000s of times :S). I'm also 100% here to help organize the troops to crowdsource missing files if that's needed.

I was just made aware of a spreadsheet with a ton of links, and the two links I checked actually weren't in the archive! So when we're ready, I'll be going through and getting all of those files downloaded first so that those are resolved. Thank you!!! And no, we wouldn't make you fill out that form. :)

Awesome, certainly the ones hosted on parakaproductions are probably good. And I had setup aa.parakaproductions.com and gave the crowdsourcing volunteers access to upload there, which we had been using as an intermediary server and could happily open that up again to continue the crowd sourcing, though since you have a different set of files than what we ended up uploading, we might want to start a new gdoc. :)

I love that you are doing this. We've been looking for two Starsky & Hutch podfics of fanfic by Nicky Gabriel.

Morgan, I have the podfics, made by Laura McEwan of fanfics by Nicky Gabriel. Nicky has pulled all her SH fanfics, so while I have the podfics, the fanfic sources are not on line. I'll happily make the podfics available. But I know usually they like to link to the original fic.

Do you have a list of the files you do have? I've been looking to rework the old spreadsheet into a new one with what's currently missing to make the crowdsourcing easier. Last time we got the list from a script my room mate made that tested all the links on the archive, but I don't know if she still has that script to run and it'd be easier to just to a vlookup in excel then to rerun anything. :) (if you want to move this convo to email, I'm parakaproductions at gmail dot com)

Amazing! Well, tag me in when you're ready for it. I'm super happy that we can get the back catalogue back since so many of those podfics haven't been uploaded again since then and would be lost without this.

I heard about this update from reena-jenkins, and may I just say, I am so EXCITED to hear this!

A quick question -- I see above that Paraka shared the spreadsheet that was crowdsourced a few years back. Might we have access to it in order to determine if our podfics are already linked there, so as not to submit redundant reports through the form? I seem to recall listing a great number of my own AA-hosted podfics there, but would like to double-check.

Also, is there any plan to revitalize the old Amplificathon-AA relationship?

Oh, that's fantastic! Thank you for your quick response.

It used to be that the Amplificathon comm here on DW was the place to post in order to have the mods transfer to Jinjurly's archive -- I don't quite remember when that stopped, but I think it was concurrent with the hack.

Oh, I had a very different understanding -- in my experience (if I'm remembering correctly??? really doubting my own reality here now) you put !not archived just to say that it hadn't yet been archived, and you did want the mods to port it over. And I remember you had to leave a note for the mods in the body of the post to say you explicitly didn't want it archived. Am I just totally mixing things up?

I went back to read some discussions on discord and I’m pretty sure you’re right! 🤦

The LiveJournal comm profile says “ all podfic posted to this community will be added to the audiofic archive.” and I thought the DW comm didn’t mention it, but it does! So, as you said, everything posted on amplificathon is intended to be archived.

However, things have changed a lot so it might be good to have that clarified. (Also, I could not find the tags explained anywhere, but I’ll try to keep looking since I’m sure it’s somewhere.)

I can’t edit my comment since it was replied to (totally fair!), and just wanted to clarify that I’m pretty sure I’m wrong here 👍 (as in, the tags are intended as chestnut_pod described) and decided to delete it instead to avoid any confusion!

I know this doesn't really belong in this comment thread, but on the other hand, I think it would be helpful to have this recorded somewhere, so here's the results of scrolling back through tags to find info posts on tagging and process re amplificathon and the audiofic archive.

In summary, the description on the profile of [community profile] amplificathon and [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon states: all podfic posted to this community will be added to the audiofic archive.

My thoughts: I don't know who the volunteer archivers were, but I expect that many of them are still around and would know how the amplificathon community and the audific archive connection worked, especially with respect to the mechanics of the process from podfic post to archive post to comment on podfic post. Amplificathon as an event no longer exists, but the community is still a connecting point of podfic activity to a certain degree, and there are still many active podficcers on the comm administrator list, so this integration may also be a question for current comm admins.

Here's an example post where an archive person commented with a link to the podfic now archived (so the podficcer would have the link, presumably), and the archived tag was added.

23-March-2008 post: the amplificathon podfic challenge faq (2008 challenge) has the first (?) amplificathon event faq with the question and answer: do i have to allow archiving of my recording? well. yes. i mean, the whole point is to share the results. but after the whole shebang is over, if you really don't want the file archived, it will be removed. we only ask in that case that you allow it to be available for six months first.

23-March-2008 post: (post template) with the (first?) details on how to post to the community.

16-May-2009 post: slack podmod is slack! noting that amplificathon as an event (and community?) welcomes podfic of original fic, but this is not in the purview of the audiofic archive. However, there's a tag on the archive for original fic (original fic tag) with the first post dated 2010 so this must have changed.

15-March-2012 post: How to tag your posts (and help your friendly neighborhood mods and archivers!) explaining the tag not archived (which the mods with change to archived after your podfic is added to the Audiofic Archive).

9-April-2012 post: Not archived tag explaining that the not archived tag was renamed to !not archived.

13-June-2012 post: A Note From Your Archivists. explaining what to include in a post, and what tags to use, including Tag your podfic with ‘not archived’.

28-June-2012 post: Dead links in posts make podmod sad:( has the line If podficcers could check that all of their posts that are still tagged 'not archived' have working download links (again clarifying the use of the tag).

12-September-2012 post: Update to Tagging noting The "!not archived" tag is used by the archivers to find podfics that have not yet been added to the Audiofic Archive. I will do my best to make sure the tag is put in place as necessary. This now applies to both DW and LJ, so if you prefer to add the "!not archived" tag yourself and you are cross posting, this tag should be added on both comms.

6-December-2013 post: interested in helping the audiofic archive? detailing the volunteer coordinator role.

5-January-2014 post: call for archivist volunteers - audiofic archive detailing the archivist volunteer role.

24-March-2015 post: tags with a general reminder to please make sure to use the "!not archived" and "amplificathon:2015" tags. It makes archivists' and mods' work much, much easier!

5-March-2016 post: Amplificathon 2016 FAQ has the same faq note: do i have to allow archiving of my recording? yes. that's sort of the point of the 'thon! please use the "!not archived" tag in your post :) but after the whole shebang is over, if you really don't want the file archived, it will be removed. in that case we only ask that you allow it to be publicly available for six months first.

26-July-2017 post: Tagging Mod Stepping Down just incuding here as it describes tagging mod responsibilities, including adding the !not archived tag (if it's missing) to new podfic posts so they will be picked up by the Archivers.
Edited (Added extra text to clarify my comment, added link list to info-related posts on amplificathon, realized that the deleted comment had a link to an example post showing the archiving process so added that here as well as a thought about administration) Date: 2022-01-23 04:37 am (UTC)

I need to preface this by clarifying that I was never an amplificathon admin or volunteer!

In summary, what chestnut_pod said re the tags!

My understanding of the LJ and DW comms is that they were not mirrors of each other, though people might crosspost, and were asked to indicate if they did. The LJ comm just has an archived tag, I think.

The fanlore page notes that a few people asked for their podfics not to be archived, so sticking to the !not archived tag on DW (since the archived tags on LJ/DW are a matter of archive recovery) would avoid any not-to-archive posts.

To clarify, we were asked to add the !not archived tag when posting to make things easier. If we forgot to mods would do it for us. So, the !not archived tag on the posts are not necessarily added by the poster (though I suppose for any newer entries it probably is, since there hasn't exactly been any reason for mods to go add it since the archive went down.) I don't know if that information is in any way relevant or useful, but thought I'd add that bit of info anyway.

The tag to get the mods' attention was "!not archived" -- so I think the ones that still have that tag and the ones that say they were archived in the past (here) are probably good to gack.

SPN/RPF Upload

Hi there,

I've managed to amass a pretty large SPN/RPF collection of podfics. Of course, they are big and hard to move around en mass, but several months ago now uhthephone donated money to pay for a wetransfer professional account for one month and I upload all my podfics to them at the time.

They also allowed the links to be shared on the storyfinders community here:https://spnstoryfinders.livejournal.com/10903737.html

Good timing for this call for podfics because blackpanther07 just paid for another month of wetransfer professional package to transfer over all my podfics. They also approved me posting new links on the LJ page

Podfics links available until March 4th
Actual list of all podfics included is on the storyfinders page here:https://spnstoryfinders.livejournal.com/10903737.html

I'm sorry, I don't have a hot clue what is missing in the archive. Most of these are labelled (see storyfinders page of list) and if I could I copied the original details page, but often these were given to me just in folders. Again, wherever possible, I added the reader and podfficcer if I knew who it was. See list here: https://spnstoryfinders.livejournal.com/10903737.html

This may not be useful to you at all, because of the number of files. I'm just offering them if you want them. I'm not sure how to crosscheck what is listed on my storyfinders webpage with what is missing or what you've recovered.
