Update: Back Online!

After some amazing work by our local ISP and our amazing, overworked linemen, the power and Internet have been restored! We are all back up and running! If you see anything odd, please let me know.
I wanted to say something. A while back (years ago) when we had a 24 hour downtime, I got cussed out by someone who was inconvenienced. That's okay - that's their story, that's their life, and they were entitled to their opinions. The last few outages we've had - and for 2021, it's not been that great so far (4 outages total, between 12 hours and 7 days each) people have been supportive, and I really, really appreciate that.
See, the thing about doing this - running Squidge.org, SquidgeWorld.org, and various other offerings to non-profits (yes, Squidge hosts about a dozen non-profit organizations, from deaf ministries to women's shelters) is something I do out of my own pocket. I've asked for money once, for a domain that got hijacked and we had to purchase it back, but otherwise nothing. Thing is, I can do this as long as I can host things in my own environment - our mini datacenter in our garage, etc. I couldn't afford to do this if we were colocated in a datacenter somewhere, or even had multiple virtual machines - not without constantly having to come to people and ask for money. That, or start charging people for using Squidge services. And I do not want to do any of that.
So no matter how the outage affected you - angrily or sad or whatever, I do apologize. But my cup half full version says it's better to let Squidge be Squidge with the possibility of downtimes due to once in a century storms, etc, rather than have to have no Squidge at all.
Be well and stay safe!

Date: 2021-11-05 06:00 pm (UTC)As Per Your Request to let you know if something goes wrong...
Date: 2021-11-23 10:29 pm (UTC)I also tried with a different browser, and something came up that really alarmed me: it said "internet resource not found".
I hope this helps you to break down what's happened to your site, Walter, and I sincerely hope it'll come back up online again really soon.
